why there are 2 diffrent keys for the same car?

I am about to buy a a used car but the seller told me that it has 2 different keys, one to open the door, and one to start the engine. it is not too old car. it is Toyota 2001. Any idea what might that be?

Sounds like the ignition was replaced

Just make sure you check the Carfax and vin# to make sure it's clean.

It's hard to say without checking the car, but I'm guessing there was a problem with the ignition at some point, so it had to be replaced
