If you have the v-6 watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAX4K1Btt0o The 4-cyl might be the same? I've worked on a '99, it is very similar and it is not fun. Why would they make the midshaft support part of the motor mount? The reason you have to cut the old shaft is because the motor mounts have locating dowels to the block and the shaft entering the tranny doesn't offer enough room to flex and pull them apart. If your bearing slides out of the holder you don't have to cut the shaft. Good luck
