Have a 1975 A14 Datsun engine used as a power plant. When you attempt to start, you turn the key but engine doesn't start until you release the key. What could be the problem?

I put on a new ignition switch and it still does that. Any other ideas?

Thank you for the helpful answers. I discovered I was not holding the key on long enough. Looks like everything is working great.
