there were three engines optioned that year. 5.7L TPI(350), 5.0L TPI (305), and the 5.0L TBI (305) which was the base engine.
there are only 2 options for the 89 IROC Z/28 either one will be TPI but 305 or 350... throttle body was only available on base model Z/28 not the IROC....
nice of you to interject Craig, but GM lists 3 engine codes for the 89 IROC. Not sure where you are getting your information from.
i have a z28 but most of the time when i order things for it, it doesnt have the option for the Z28, only for and iroc. so does that mean that its in iroc?
'89 was the only year that the IROC and Z28 were optioned the same. Badging was the only thing different.
Honestly I'm pretty familiar with the Camaros History and I don't think there was a Z28 for 1988 Thru 1990 it was just Sport Coupe And Iroc-Z, Until 1991 When The Iroc-z was no more And The Z28 Returned. The Base motor for the '89 Iroc-Z was A 5.0 EFI.
there are irocs without the tpi, they could be ordered without it. ive even seen a few with the lg4 (carbed 305). the only thing an iroc has without question is the suspension package because thats what it was... not sure on the year they droped the iroc option on the z28 and made it standard but i was under the impression it started later... like 1990- 92
mid way through 1990 they stopped making the iroc and it was just the z-28 then.
LOL, That's exactly what I Said, I had A 1987 IROC-Z with the carbed 305ci. The IROC-Z was made From 1985 TO 1990. In 1991 The Z28 Took Over Again.
Yeah midway thru '90 because Chevrolet was already releasing the '91 Z28 around August / September of '90.
