Found a 1987 Chevy Camaro coupe not sure if it’s Z28 or not!

Asked by Farious May 13, 2018 at 08:14 AM about the 1987 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe RWD

Question type: Car Customization

Guys I really need your help on this one, from what I was
told back in the day that a Chevy Camaro around the late
80’s was the muscle car that everybody wanted if it not it
was the mustang. So I found this 1987 Chevy Camaro
that this guy wanted to sell because he has no space in
his garage to no longer keep it so he is desperate to sell.
But what caught my eye originally before anything was
how low the mileage was on the car, just 29,000 miles on
it!! Not bad for a car from the late 80’s. I know there is
some demand for this car, in good condition. PLEASE if
you guys can help me find out what exact model this is, I
know it’s a coupe but I want to know if it’s a IROC Z or
If it’s a Z28. The owner is not aware of this stuff so he
wasn’t able to tell me much, he won it at a auction and
wants to sell it for the low. I’m also putting up a picture of
the egnine I’m trying to figure out if it’s a 6 cylinder egnine
or not. If I purchase the car should I put in a more
powerful egnine like the V6 or V8!! And if there’s anything
else I need to do the car that would be a good idea and
would also help increase the value of the car. Please let
me know I’m a young guy that’s hungry to learn more
about cars and the business. Appreciate everybody’s
answers, I can learn a little something from everybody!!

P.S I’m buying it for 3,000

Here is part of an article about Camaro IROC-Z28that appeared in a 1990 magazine that I keep for reference: Chevrolet introduced the Camaro IROC-Z28 in 1984 for the 1985 model year. The IROC-Z was option B4Z on the option sheet and could only be ordered with the Z28 package. This new performance icon boasted skid pad numbers within the range of .90 g but wasn't exactly powerful by today's standards. The top offering under the hood was the brand new Tuned Port Injection (TPI) 305 cubic inch V8, which first boasted 215 horsepower and 275 ft/lbs of torque, but was later tuned to about 230 hp. From a displacement of 5.7 liters, this doesn't look like much, but for the economy standards influenced 1980s it was OK. It was produced with minor changes from 1984 (for model year 1985) until 1990. It does not mention this model having an I-6. I hope this helps.
