Question type: Maintenance & Repair

How do I remove the CD Changer from the Honda?  All of my cds are stuck in the changer and I get an error message.  I can not switch between CDs, so I assume that the changer need repairing or replacement

I did figure out how to remove the entire unit, but was unable to remove the changer unit or to remove the cds. Any thoughts on how to do this. Does anyone know if the changer unit is a separate unit and if it can be replaced without replacing the whole radio assembly?

What you have is most likely a indash 6 disk head unit. I would recommend taking it to your local radio shop for repair, or check online, but not much the normal customer can do in your situation. Unless the cds have sentimental value, I personally would just replace the head unit with an aftermarket head unit that plays mp3s, and has Bluetooth for your phone...

This is not answer...The 6 CD player just totally sucks!!!!! It's difficult to get out and it's nearly impossible to get back in. The engineer that designed that multi-player unit must have been at the bottom of their class. I now face a long drive having to listen to stupid radio stations that play the same 10 songs over and over and over. Thanks Honda!

If you still have the car, I removed my radio, then opened the unit and removed the cd changer guts bc I also had stuck cds...the transport arm is defective. Its not difficult at all. The radio/tape still work fine.

this happened to my CRV 2002. I went to change the cds as I was getting tired of the same six. One came out, the others won't. Just a stupid err message. Those were my favorite cds and I'm pissed. I also dont' like driving without music - the cassette long gave up the ghost and the radios sucks. I really don't have money to go the dealer or Best Buy or someplace and see what they can do.

It seems my tape player broke a couple of my tapes before I realized it. Factory replacement units can be found on the web for $20-50. Removing the cd unit from the main is tricky, but do-able. There are only 6 small screws holding the cd unit, and either one or two small ribbon cables that are easily disconnected. Then it’s just a matter of opening the cd unit and getting your cds. If you’re not going to reinstall it it doesn’t matter how badly you damage it.

Coincidentally...the tape player appears to be a separate unit too...but I haven’t investigated that fully.

This is not an answer to the CD player issue. As far as the ‘not having music’ issue , have you guys Considered a “Bluetooth fm transmitter”? You can connect to the transmitter via Bluetooth (mine also does aux and usb) and it transmits the signal to radio station so you can listen that way. Mine works great !

06 Honda CR-V EX (2nd Owne of this vehicle : Not an answer to original question posed but it may help . An FM radio transmitter does works for me but in some places it cuts out this signal and goes to radio. I will be replacing the whole unit with an aftermarket unit with Bluetooth and that should solve my issues with this problem. The originally installed unit does not play CDs because I think CD or CDs are still inside.
