idle air control issues

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

(code 0505, pcv air leakage). Have replaced IAC valve unit with new one,
checked all vacuum hoses, no leaks. Cleaned out air intake on throttle body
using CVC throttle cleaner. Cleaned air intake sensors. Reset all codes. Still
the throttle jumps up and down repeatedly between 1 and 1 and a half,
sometimes shoots up past 2. Mechanic said to change air intake manifold
gasket. If no codes showed up before to do this before or after replacing IAC
unit, why should i change gasket. I'm stumped

Don't know if the last mechanic performed this smoke test, it was on my mind actually. He just said he checked for any air leaks and didn't find any. I'll ask him specifically if he did this. Still don't think it is a gasket issue. No work was done around this area, only the throttle body area, and there were no codes before suggesting a gasket issue. I have a new one just in case. Was thinking I might also try and bleed the coolant system soon as I can find the bleeder valve. Mechanic said he did it but I noticed my reserve tank was empty when normally it was full. Thank you for your time and answers, Regards, Bruce

All this time i thought aicv and throttle body are the one to suspect with rough idling. What i did to solve mine, change pcv valve should be oem not aftermarket.clean throttle body and aicv, change solenoid amd o rings of oil pressure switch.

Problem finally solved. Pcv valve had already been changed, however it seems the continuing problem was the idle air control unit I had installed. I bought this unit through Amazon for a $100. A cheaply built knockoff of the OEM stock. Looked the same but was at least one third the weight. Had it replaced by an OEM unit ($ 375.00) which finally fixed all throttle issues.
