Timing Marks

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

How can I determine which stroke the engine is on when on TDC?  There are
two times when the crank passes TDC for each one of the cam.  In the old
days I would just start it up and upon the first backfire I would know.  In an
"interterence" engine this sort of test could be disastrous.

Find the number one cylinder, remove plug, turn crank to the timing mark on it,you will be in time.
