How long do the transmissions last?
I'm about to buy one for $3000 in California. It has 180k miles. 1993 Lexus GS 300 4door sedan, 4cyl/6cyl switch, good body, clean interior, goodlooking underhood. No accidents, one owner, he has a carfax printout, runs smoothly. Only thing that might be a problem is the shocks - we noticed slightly wavy when we test-drove it. I was hoping to drive (300+miles roundtrip) several times a year for a few years. I have the VIN # too.

Transmission life is a very fuzzy area -- it depends on how you treat it. They can go out at 40K or they can go even 250K or more -- I run a fleet of trucks and we service them at each 100K and they do fairly well, but we still lose some randomly. A well serviced transmission I would trust to 250K before I started to worry
3 grand for a used tranny with 180k miles, buy at your own risk.it would be cheaper or cost about the same to have yours rebuilt.

6 YEARS AND 6 MONTHS FOR A NEW KIA RIO BEFORE IT NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION
Is that 3,000 for the Whole Car or Just the Trans? If it’s just the Trans. and it’s 24 Years Old,I’m Sure there are Other Year GS300 trans that will fit in the GS300 They made them all they way until 2006 but really 2005,I know 1St generation GS300 run was until 1997 so should have exact Trans a Hell of a Lot Cheaper.Like The Previous Post Said I would look into how much a complete rebuild would be.And Then see if you can find the newest Trans that would fit.I had a 99 GS300 with 231K Miles Trans was Perfect,Engine Rings or valve seals were going Used a ½ Quart of oil about every 2-3 Weeks,Would still be Running but lady late for Her Kids baseball went thru a red light and T-Boned Me,Totaled the Car Her Range Rover had about 20 Airbags,Curtains and a bend in the bumper like Hitting a Street Sign at 5 MPH !!!
