2nd generation LS400 is very reliable. Mine is 1996 I'm the 2nd owner. The car is now at 276600km (172800mi). I only had to replace the steering rack and a hose total $700. The rest are just wearing parts like brakes, pads, tires, etc. Mind you, it's not a Camry. And, it's a V8. So double that of a 4-banger you will feel justfied.

The LS400 can last you for a long time actually lol. there's some who has 1million miles on his LS400 and it still runs like a champ. wanna learn more about it? if you haven't already go watch donut media review on the ls400 and you will be in shock.
I have an 2000 LS400 with 329,000 miles. I've had it for about 2 and a half years. Still runs great, I've only have had to do minor or regular mechanical work to it. Not sure how many owners have had it before me. I bought it on the fly needed a car fast after my 2002 Toyota 4Runner got totaled. Bought it private sale for only $1500 and then it only had 220,000 miles on it.
