I just bought a 1991 Lexus LS400 with 38,000 miles, what are common mechanical failures and cost of parts?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I understand repairs can be expensive but I can do most mechanical work with the help of some of my foster sons (10 today). We have an professional automotive shop in the garage with a lift. I need to begin budgeting for future repairs. What gives out first and most often?

you got a used car, anything can go bad at anytime,no way to say what will go first, with 38,000 on it I would not really start thinking about problems, enjoy the ride.

I bought a 91 Lexus LS400 4 years ago for $2,400.00. Haven't had to touch it till now. Bought parts to rebuild P/S Pump for $60.00 and did it myself. Mine has over 300,000 miles. Common Problem--When lights are turned on at night, transmission will disengage! Found out from a Lexus mechanic that the Reverse back up lights are wired through the trunk tail lights causing the tail lights to short out! I removed the bulbs for just the trunk tail lights. Still have rear window and body tail lights! I love this car!! The wife does, too, so I bought myself an '92 SC 300 coupe with only 130,000 original miles! When you do encounter a problem, go to ASK.COM and they will put an expert online with you to help you fix your problem. Only costs $9--$45, depending on how big a rush you are in for an answer. That is how I found out about my transmission disengage problem!
That doesn't make sense. You have a Professional garage with a lift and you bought a car without checking it out ?
