My temp./clock is blacked out most of the time. But when the car is sitting in sun and temp. gets to 80+, the LED display works---nice and clear. Very strange! Why?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

As I mentioned above, I have a 1991 LS400 Lexus.  The temp./clock is blacked out MOST of the time.  However, recently I noticed that when the car is sitting outside in the sun, and the temp. inside the car is 80 or more,  the temp./clock display looks and works fine---until the car cools down inside again!  Very strange!  Any idea(s) on why it is doing this?  Is the display salvageable?

You're better off replacing it, for some reason these displays tend to give out when they age.
