Navigation not working

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
my navigation system suddenly stopped working in my 05 LS 430. The message was
'cannot read CD'. I removed the cd and rebooted. Now it says insert cd or see dealer. Can
someone help or do I have to buy a new unit? That's about $1,300 and that's a lot of
Garmins.

Today my 2005 Lexus LS 430's GPS system started to show "Please insert the correct CD". Why? We have not changed anything in this automobile. The Toyota dealer that services our car did check it for an updated CD on our last service. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this thing and where is the CD for the gps anyway? Jim
The cd for the navigation is in the trunk. The navigation module or ecu, whichever you prefer to call it is located there. You can have a dealer test a new disc for you(normally no cost, we have some lieing around) but if it no longer reads the old one, there is a good chance it may not read the new one unless the old one was damaged. I have had to replace the ECU because they have faulted.
Yes when this happens ,chances are you need to replace the navigation CD unit in the trunk ..I just got a used one and its now back to run my navigation without a problem .
