2008 Lexus LS 460 sits for a month battery gets drained and won't start?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We don't drive the car a lot. After sitting (garage) for a month or more it won't
start. The battery is dead and won't take a charge or jump. The battery is not
easy to get to so a trickle charge will not work.

I guess you are going to have to get to that battery and inspect it, like how old is it, and not to say that the battery it self could be shorted out internally, causing you not to be able to jump it. Dead batteries are hard on the charging system, will need to have that inspected once you get the car going.

This is the third new battery in the last 12 months. It's a big Durecell from SAMS Club. The car has 60 K miles.

The place to start is, see if you can get a good battery for testing purposes, then connect the positive cable and put a voltmeter with the positive lead on the negative post of the battery and with the negative cable disconnected, connect the negative lead of the meter on the negative cable, if it reads more than 2 volts, you have a short somewhere in your electrical system, do this test with the key off, and nothing on, also make sure your doors are shut and if you have a light for under the hood remove the bulb prior to this test. I would recommend having your alternator checked for shorts, also your starting system. If a good battery starts the engine, check the voltage across the battery with the engine running, if it is less than 14 volts, your alternator is probably bad.
