327 350 hp carburetoration

Asked by wyaif68 Apr 30, 2016 at 02:47 PM about the 1968 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have all original 1968 327 350 hp vette. All original
but carburetor. Replaced with like rochester 4 bbl.
Car is running super rich. Pulled carb apart it check
jet size can't see markings for size but they are
large.  What was the stock jet size for that car and
rochester carb or what should I try for 3000ft
elevation.  Thanks
Steve

1968 7028220 327 M CHEVY CORVETTE 350 HORSEPOWER.....put a 780 holly on it..

That's the easy way out. This is a 100% original car and really want to keep it that way. I already have different carbs and intakes that would easily fix problem. Doesn't answer question !!!

Elevation of 3,000 feet? It is going to run rich unless you have it adjusted. Best to maybe go to a dyne tuner so he can judge it best on the computer for the proper adjustments. Most carbs are set for sea level so you will run rich. That is why I am going to fuel injection for my dual quads on my 69. FiTech makes a kit for dual quads, and single carb replacements. ($750) Your jets may be too large, but a good tuner/dyno-tuner will put in the best ones. Just saying, at 3K feet, the atmospheric pressure changes a lot and you will constantly be going out of tune. Spent the $100 + to tune it properly and you will not be sorry.
