Hi edlee! The L88 is kind of an elusive animal ... Here's a page with some source information about the L88. Hopefully you can match some info up with your Vette and determine some pedigree. Good luck

both are 427cu.,L-36 is a lower compression ratio 10.25:1 ,390 hp engine the L-88 is a high compression engine 12.5:1 ratio with 560 hp. I found this at motorera.com

I DON'T BELIEVE YOUY HAVE AN L-88, THESE DIDN'T COME ALONG TILL THE '70s

the L-88 engine was used in 68 ,where did you get that info from Denis?

L88 was a very special engIne that GM used for racing. The Govt. was coming down hard on all the excessive power car companies were putting out, and in turn, GM banned all Co sponsored racing. To get around this, an L88 Option was available....the cost of this package was $3,000.00!!! Almost the cost of another car! To help keep this monstrous power out if the hands of Joe Average and IN the hands of professional rsvers, this package came with Radio & Heater Delete!!! Yup... You wanted this fire breather... You got hard suspension, more power than you knew what to do with..... And you froze in the winter with NO MUSIC THIS WAS A TRUE RACE CAR..... Enjoy your 427/390. (I own a 68 myself.) but make no mistake, it's no L88. Last one sold went off the block at $625,000.00 Yes, we BOTH wish we owned one!!? BD

I believe the L88 is an all aluminum block. and yes that engine started out with the 1967. Some are rare.
