Lately I've been hearing some sort of clinging that seems to come from one of my air
vents.  It lasts anywhere from a few seconds to 10-15 minutes and then quits.

try another vent position from vent deflection control panel on dash, something is restricting lever movement causing overriding of motor drive arm. something simple as a vent mounted air freshener falling in the works,
