How does my steering wheel remain locked after starting the engine?

Asked by Dougrx300 Aug 30, 2016 at 12:40 AM about the 2001 Lexus RX 300 FWD

I can start my RX-300 but the steering wheel will remain locked for a period of
2 to 9 minutes after start...very odd. Any ideas what the problem can be?

Check out the steering lock. Replace with a salvaged unit and see if it makes any difference.

Check and see if the brake light goes on when you depress the brake pedal. If the brake light switch is bad, the tranny thinks the brake is not engaged and won't get out of park. Sometimes pulling and replacing the fuse does the trick
