Leaking Edelbrock carburators

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have dual Edelbrock carburetors on my 69 Corvette.  Over the past two years I have started to smell gasoline after I park it in the garage.  I took it to my mechanic to check for any line leaks or lose connections.  He said he found none, and the smell is from the carburetors because they store gas in the reservoirs. Finally when I it parked outside while I cleaned the garage I found the passenger side of my front carb is dirty from leaking gas.  I also found a slight drip from the spring rod on the choke on my back carb, also on the passenger side.  Any suggestions other than to tear them apart and do an overhaul rebuild on them?

No, that is pretty much the only way to seal them. Rebuild them both with fresh gaskets. Don't mess around with fuel leaks in your fiberglass car. I lost a 65 convertible to a fuel fire resulting from a broken fuel line back in the early 80s.

I was looking at the Inglese injection set-up. Expensive as heck, but it is a proven EFI system, more power, better fuel economy, and it will look good also. Just have to hide the cost from momma, and make sure it will fit under the hood.

Rebuilt both carburetors. Runs great now and minimal smell of gas when parked in the garage. The float was bad and a few gaskets had worn down. Cheaper that the Inglese set up for sure. Looking for a place to do a dyno tune and dial in the carburetors and see what the old buggy puts out.
