Can I put set of winter tire 215-65-17 instead of 225-65-17 as suggested by manufacturer? The only difference seems 100 hundred pounds less of support by tire means load index 98T instead 100T!

They will be 10mm thinner and 13mm shorter also. Ask the store selling the tires.

Remember when getting tires the first number is width the second number is depth and the third number is rim size so in aggreeing with john yes there will be 10mm difference so as long as u dont mind the difference there is no real issue going with a 215 instead of a 225 the manufacturers recomended is just for optimal use
