1971 Corvette 454 engine original?

Question type: General

two questions
can you tell me where to find the stamped engine number that includes the
partial VIN? A detailed answer with a picture would be appreciated.
The cast engine number is 3955287GMT. B22 – 71 is also there. What does
this mean? Could this be original to the car?

This number 3955287 I find for 1970-71 Q-jet intake that fits 402/454. The earliest 454 block casting number I find is for 1973 to 1985 454 that went into cars, which is 361956 block casting number. I don't know exactly were to find the casting number, but usually they are on the side of the block, or right behind the distributor along the top of the bell housing.

Possible that the motor is a rebuilt 402? Do need the casting number.

The VIN on a 1971 corvette does not tell anything about what engine was originally installed (only 1972 and later). Is there another way to find out?
