Hi Jeter, This site says that retail was $5,296! Here's site with a lot more info on your Vette. Hope this helps! Enjoy ... http://www.rogerscorvette.com/specs/72.htm
somewhere around 5,000 - 65 hundred bucks depending on options.
Bought a new burnt orange Coupe/4 speed for $5450.00 in 1972. right out of the showroom.
I bought a new steel cities gray convertible on 4/24/72. It was a base 4-speed with air conditioner and hardtop for $5644.34.
I bought one in farm country in Illinois a 453 automatic in Mille Miglia Red for $4400 all up. Nixon had repealed the excise tax and the dealer had a $1600 discount--seems not many in Gibson city Illinois wanted a vette. I put on the L88 hood to accomodate an Edelbrock Manifold. Added Hooker Headers and side pipes and painted the ass end and a strip down the middle in refrigerator white. Plenty fast could do an actual 141 MPH just as advertised. At that speed she was stable as a rock--you could take your hands off the wheel and she would track straight and true. Sold her for $7200 in 1984 after putting back on the stock exhaust and Walker mufflers.
