1977 Corvette with dampness on the floor

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just got a 1977 Corvette with the L48 engine / automatic.  I took out all the carpeting and I noticed dampness on the floor in front of the seats.  Are there common problem areas in this model that would cause this dampness... such as the t-tops, flat back window, etc?  I also noticed that there was a hole in each floor... about the size of a quarter.  Any thoughts?  Thanks, Mahi

Common problem with the C3, leaking t-top seals, another problem is the cowl get filled with debris and plugs the drain hole then the water has not other place to go but the interior. Now the holes in the floor you got me? Can you post up a photo? Wade

Wade... thanks for the information. I will try to get a picture of the floor next weekend. The holes on the floor look like factory holes. One more question. When filling with gas.... if gas overflows.... is there a drain pipe to get the gas out of there. I noticed that the filler neck is surrounded by a rubber doughnut. Mahi

More than likely over time the dampness has lead to rust which has eaten through the floorboard. Check the undercarriage for rust in front of the seats.

The floorboards are fiberglass and will not "rust".
