Looking at buying a 1986 cherry red corvette

Asked by migration_chebellama... Jul 30, 2012 at 04:56 PM about the 1986 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe RWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

1986 chevy corvette. Has 5.7 v8 with tuned port injection. Has brand new tires with fresh alignment, fresh tune up including plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. Automatic transmission. Car is fast and fun but has 180,000 miles on it. Hood has a few dings in it but otherwise body is in good condition. This car isnt perfect which is why its low priced for a corvette. Interior is a work in progress. New carpet was put in but isn't quite finished.

This is the sellers comment above in the Craigslist ad.The seller is asking $4000 for the car and seems to be firm on it. He said that he is putting new carpet inside and installing a new $300 alternator since the old one is bad. He also said there is a small leak of something he was going to look into and maybe fix if it isn't costly. I have plans to see it and drive it this week sometime.

1st off the alternator for that car is nowhere near $300.auto zone sells them for $75.00. before you buy this car find out more about the leak ,because if its a rear main seal which is common on those car especially with that kind of mileage, the tranny will have to come out to fix it .$$$$.look under the car where the engine and tranny meet if its wet or very clean its leaking. if its clean it means the guy cleaned it up so you don't see the leak right away. When you hear the car running listen for the slightest knock , that will tell you if the engine needs a rebuild.for more info check usedcorvettesforsale.com to compare prices, all in all the price does sound fair .

Funny you mentioned the alternator being $75 at autozone because I saw it for around $85-90 at my local autozone store. I'll find out today how much or where the alternator came from.
