86 Corvette dies when trying to start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my 86 Corvette will die as soon as I try to crank it over. Ive turned the
ignition to the on position the dash lights and fuel pump will turn on but as
soon as I try to turn it over it just dies. could this be because of the security
system or maybe a slow drain somewhere? I was able to start it and drive
the other day no problems but when I went out today to start it that
happened. it is a manual and I've heard its supposed to be in R to start? I
do that anyway just to be sure.

Well first off its not possible to die when starting as it wasnt running in the first place. Fuel filter ok? Fuel pump could be running but not acceptable. Spray some ether into intake then try to start...if it fires right up then dies you have fuel delivery problem. If ether doesnt work with a few tries then focus on spark delivery. Dont go crazy with the ether!! only should need about a full 1 second spray per attempt.

did you mean the battery just dies??? perhaps i missed the boat on that one...lol. put battery charger on it overnight on low....have tested. or....just put new battery in and take to shop for alternator testing. Batt could just be old too.....
