I just got my 87 a month ago, just noticed tonight that when everything is off, the time still shows. Isn't the clock supposed to shut off with the car?

Question type: General

I'm concerned about the clock running the battery down, as I don't drive the car every day.  I didn't notice until today that it is not off.

Do you mean the time is counting or the light is on on the display? I'm guessing you mean the segmented display on a digital clock. If thats the case you dont have to worry. If you have a good battery and charging system you should be able to go for a very long time without the car running and the clock ticking....

Yes, it is the digital display showing the time. Is it supposed to be on when the car isn't running? Thanks for the info. I appreciate it!

yes, that should be on no problem....u can hook up a multi-meter to ur battery and it should show that ur car is running no more than 500 miliamps while the car is off...on ur 87 it should be less, 500 is just the max u should worry about before it'll unsafley draw from ur battery and start having it die on u

if u do plan on doing that to check http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/how-to/repair/how-to-stop-car-battery-drains

it uses very little power to run the clock ,not enough to drain the battery.

Denis, Vettes have clocks because some of us are married. The clocks do not use enough of the battery to even worry about it. If it went off every time you shut off the car, you'd have to reset it every time you started it up.
