88 VETTE, SMELLS RAW GAS.
Asked by maxxo Feb 12, 2015 at 07:44 PM about the 1988 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe RWD
Question type: General
I have 88 corvette w/o catalytic's and it too smells like Ratpaks 88, raw fuel. Does the
absence of CATs produce this smell? I only recently purchased it, and have not run it on
the hiway. Please help !

obviously check for leaks, but check the purge solenoid and evap canister for fuel. also check fuel pressure regulator.
Hi Mike, Thanks for your attention to my question. I will look into the three things you mentioned. Now is there somewhere I can read how to purge the slenoid and evaporator canester? Also how do I check the fuel pressure regulator. Maxxo

One quick test for the fuel pressure regulator is to pull off the vac line leading into it. There should be no fuel in it. If there is the little diaphragm is bad and you need a new one. Also, there are loads of YouTube vids on purge solenoids. Also you would probably benefit from joining one of the corvette forums out there. Corvetteforum.com is a good one, there are lots of smart dudes there! Hope it works out for ya/! Nice ride by the way! Mike.
