where does the return spring mount on the primary carb on a 1959 corvette?

I INSTALLED A "ORIGINAL SET OF RETURN SPRINGS ON MY 59 cORVETTE. THE ACCELERATOR ON THE PRIMARY CARB IS NOT RETURNING TO IDLE.  PERHAPS i HAVE THE SPRING ATTACHED WRONG OR IS THIS SPRING JUST WEAK?

The return spring on the primary carb goes into the top hole of the throttle on the carb accellerator.
