Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought a used 2006 Avalon Ltd and I've isolated a grinding noise that comes from the steering column when I turn the car on or when getting out of the car.
Is this normal or is it a sign of coming trouble?

I took this car to the Toyota dealer to check out the noise. They agreed that it is being caused by the steering column locking mechanism which is doing its job and that there is no need to do anything about it. It is just an annoyance is all it is. The car has about 124k miles on it.
