My 06 camry turns on, then turns right back off?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 06 camry will start up and steady idle down
and turn off. Attempted to start it back up several
times, same thing. Went to work and came home,
decided to try again, it started and stayed running.
The next morning it would not stay started, then it
would after waiting a while.

Which engine in this vehicle. Mileage? Any lights on or flashing when the engine is running?

OK...this might be a Fuel Delivery issue. We would start the diagnosis with the installation of a Fuel Pressure Test gauge........a Spark Tester....and a Scan tool. Absent this special equipment.....try this. Go to the back of the vehicle and smack the bottom of the fuel tank with the palm of your hand while someone else attempts to start the vehicle. This is a attempt to diagnose a bad Fuel pump. Some Auto parts Stores will Scan your vehicle for Codes for Free.

So the old pump was bad. I have put in a new fuel pump and fuel and I'm still having the same problem. It is still starting and shutting off.

Ok...would you know if this vehicle has an aftermarket theft deterrant system on board? Any other recent repair work done other than the FP? Try this. On the next restart...hold the gas pedal down half way...hold it there and crank the engine over. When the engine starts...do not let off the gas pedal. Does the engine continue to run?

I recently just got this car about a month ago. Alot looks clean up the hood, doesnt look like anything major was done. Yes, it continues to run after the engine. I've been looking at YouTube videos, I'm seeing a lot of throttle body, sensor or idle air control valve? Could this be the issue?

Yes indeed. Throttle Body Cleaning is a first logical step. Your 06 Camry may have an Idle Control Valve....but.....it may also be ....Drive By Wire ....idle control. How do we tell? Usually when these systems go bad codes are set in the computer and the Check Engine Light goes On....did you notice any warning lights ON when the engine runs?
