Subaru chose to NOT fit the much more robust 2.5i from their Forester/Legacy/OB
platform into the smaller Impreza/CT chassis, so I do NOT recommend this anemic
driveline for towing anything but an extra-light load. You're already suffering from the CT's
poor aero at speed requiring a noisier, higher-revving motor to pass at speed, and the
2.0's CVT is also smaller. It's interesting to note that Mazda went through the same
learning curve with their CX-5, but was able to sandwich in their much torquier 2.5
successfully. Either Subaru doesn't care, or simply cannot fit the 2.5i in there. Maybe in
the new 2018 redesign?
So, frankly, I'd swap out your CT for a nice 2013-2014 OB (disclaimer: I sell these) for far
better towing capacity and quietness at speed, giving up only about 10% fuel eco.
Considering how ridiculously overpriced used CTs are wholesaling for here in the
northeast you may even be able to find a no-cost swap. Just note that I would avoid the
2015+ OB because of poor handling and sloppy body control. Stick with 2013-2014.
OTOH if towing your condo is a LOW speed, shoirt distance proposition you might try it.
Just try to not stress the driveline too much on fast uphills, eh? That smaller CVT isn't
designed for it.
