i have a 94 ford escort wagon 1.9 L engine and the car wont accelerate.

Asked by csmitty0919 Jul 07, 2015 at 08:02 PM about the 1994 Ford Escort 4 Dr LX Wagon

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had a used engine put in because of a blown head gasket.  Then it didn't want to start
every time so I put a new battery in and a new fuel pump.  Now when I turn it on the check
engine light is on and the car won't go.  If I press very lightly on the gas it will speed up a
little but once I press down passed a certain spot the gas pedal goes to the floor and the
won't go.  Then after a while the light goes off and the car drives great.  PLEASE HELP!!!!!

First I would try to catch the check engine light being on and see what code or codes are coming up but most likely I would check Throttle Position Switch and clean Throttle Body and Idle Air Control Valve.
