2006 Corolla CE driver's side control arm bolt does not clear the engine

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an 06 Corolla CE.  The control arms need to be replaced.  When I try to remove the old one (driver's side), the front bolt will not clear the engine so that I can remove it all the way.  Is this normal, or does this mean the engine motor mounts could be bad and the engine is "sagging"?

Check the mount,s by placing a jack under oil pan, make sure you use a block of wood in between jack plate and oil pan, jack it up slowly, watch the rubber bushing,s at the mount,s if they seperate and you see crack, they are bad.

This will all so give you clearance to change out control arm bolt.

Thanks. The motor mounts seem decent. I put a 2x4 across the tranny oil pan and part of the transmission so the pan wouldn't take all of the load. I was able to lift it about 1/4 inch before it started lifting the car off the jack stands. the bolt head still needs about 1/16 more to clear the pan edge. I really don't want to remove the pan. What am I missing here? All the other bolts came out nicely so the arm will drop out after this bolt is removed. I'm thinking of trying to bend the lip of the edge of the pan. What do you suggest?

Don,t bend the pan,may cause leak, and more headache, remove the bolt,s from the motor mount,s,and pick it on up,then you can do the job without more trouble.

Thanks. While I did a slight mod to allow the bolt to come out, it didn't matter. The new grommet was too tight to allow it to go back in. I had to remove the tranny pan to get the new gear all bolted together. Thanks for your help.
