2006 toyota corolla starter doesnt engage everytime i turn the ignition

When the starter is intermittent like that there's a dead spot, if it lands there it won't engage, you're best bet is to replace the starter

Do you mean the starter spins and does not mesh with flywheel, it could very well be the starter, just as mauto1 said. The gear on Bendix not pushing out or teeth broken . It could also be teeth broken off flywheel. Or do you mean it does not even try to spin, nothing happens when you try?
