Question type: Maintenance & Repair

there is a clunk underneath in the
front end! sounds like something is
broke. 2 when i turn the car off, it has
a rattle / clainging sound! It also
smells like there is probably gas in
the oil_ Please help my girlfriend she
knows NOTHING  about a car only
where the gas goes! This is her car
and she drives it al over town to and
fro without checking fluids etc there
is a hole in the exhaust very small
that i can hear! it sounds like it needs
oil all the time! oh ya and she has 16"
low prof tires on it that rub every time
she turns sharp (but not very sharp)!
could that have to do with it?

Tire rubbing: check the wheel well and the tire for signs of abrasion. There's no quick fix for this, short of switching to different size rims and tires (Just avoid really sharp cornering). Clunking: Could be a bad strut, ball joint, control arm bushing, swap bar bushing - best to have a shop check it out. It can be a safety issue, so don't put it off (a ball joint breaking can cause loss of control of vehicle while driving). Rattle/Clanging: check the oil for contamination - a frothy milky appearance may mean coolant is getting into the oil, a sign of a bad head or intake gasket (or worse cracked head or block). "Block Tester" is a product that can check for presence of hydrocarbons in coolant, another indicator of a bad head gasket. Gas in oil may indicate a leaky fuel injector. Overall seems vehicle needs some maintenance, if you/GF aren't able, get it to a good neighborhood mechanic.
