Question type: Shopping & Pricing
Hey Car Gurus, I had a question. So here it is. I keep hearing roomers
that the 1994-1998 mustang V6 coupe has just as much power as the 1994-1998 mustang 2 door GT coupe. I was just wandering if thats true. I'm trying to find a mustang thats below 5,000
and with alot of power. If you have any suggestions it would be greatly apreciated! You can email me back at ponycarsrock@hotmail.com or renown@socket.net.
Thanks

what you heard was a "made up thought" the gt was (I do believe) 50+ hp over the base.
the actual specs of a GT Mustang 1997 has 225HP stock the V-6 has 175HP stock.
how ever the 5.0 made almost 300 ftlbs of trq witch is were acc. really comes from 94-95 gts are an awsome place to start i had a 94 v6 and it was horably slow my best friend has a 95 5.0 and it on a 100 shot of nitrous will hang doors with my 08 gt and i have about 350 hp now so great place to start
If you are set on the body style, pick up a 95 5.0l and drop it in. If not, pick up an old fox body 5.0l, throw in a new differential(a locking is my personal choice for them), cam it, better exhaust and intake setup, stage 2 clutch, and you'll be eating the new GT's alive. the power to weight ratio is amazing and doing this you'll spend under 4 grand if you can find a body and engine(rebuild it).
There is crazy amount of bad information on here.... 94-95 5.0s and 96-97 4.6s were rated at 215 Hp at the crank ..the 5.0 had more torque, 300 vs 285 I believe. The 98 gt was rated at 225 hp due to better tune and exhaust The v6 is 94-95 had a whopping 145 hp and 96-98 had 150 hp. Trust me, those 94-98 V6 mustangs are about the slowest car you can buy....the GT 94-98 cars are turds in stock form but with a couple grand spent in the right places, they can really fly. Your best bet would be to buy a 94-95 5.0 for like 3k and spend 2k on heads/ cam/ intake. otherwise, you will be stuck being slow.
I get the feeling justin likes the 5.0... id honestly say grab the 4.6l... i cant speak for down in the states but i know guys that have a hell of a time finding 94-95 5.0 upgrades cheap up here in Canada... I get all my parts for shit all lol its so cheap... id grab a 96-98GT... ill concede that the 5.0 generated a little more torque bot not over as much of the band as the 4.6 modular... gl.
The V6 3.8 HAS 150 hp's ,and the v8 4.6 HAS 225hp's....NOW the new V6 FOR 2014 has 303 hp's a lot has changed since then.... hope this helps
I have a original 260 v8 in my 641/2 mustang, and with a Edelbrock intake and Edelbrock 650 4 barrel,and a 3/4 cam, with headers, with 351 w heads, it's dyno tuned at 327 hp's
Will a 1998 Ford Mustang GT v8 fit into a 1995 threw2000
i fit a 1194 4.6lsohc police interceptor into 1999 mustang after the 3.8 blew a chip off back of intake and stareted drinkin water in its oi lol
