Why do my reverse lights stay on when the key is in the on position in my 1994 ford ranger?

My ranger reverse lights stay on when the truck is running and not in reverse any clues?

My 97 does this. I'm assuming it's because it is designed to do so. The switch must sense power, and the shifter in reverse to power up the reverse light. Try using the accessory instead of turning on the ignition..
