I want to a/c to my 2000 Chevy Express 2500

Asked by RockenJoshm Feb 08, 2019 at 11:25 AM about the 2000 Chevrolet Express Cargo G2500 RWD

Question type: Car Customization

So I have recently purchased a 2000 chevy Express
2500 with a 4.3l v6 in it. This thing is bare bones.
Power steering and brakes appear to be the only
options on this thing. I would very much like to a/c
to the van and was wondering what all
modifications will need to be made? I know when I
added a stereo all the wiring was actually in the
dash and doors so it was actually extremely
simple. But I have a feeling this will be a bigger
project, so I am looking for any guidance I can get.

Installing AC can be an expensive task for a van without it. The compressor on the engine, new belt(s), evaporator, condenser. Not to mention the climate controls in the dash. Maybe you could find some of the parts used but this will likely cost $1500-$3000.

Well so far the compressor, evaporator, and condenser have only ran me $600 in parts. I still need the hoses and everything. As for the climate controls as far as the three knobs on the plate in the dash I have found a used one on Ebay for $60 give or take. I'm more trying to find out if these vans are already set up to install the options or will things need to be changed or modified to accommodate the a/c system. Like for example every thing was there and ready to install the radio and speakers. The option has just never been done on the van. I saw two more wiring harnesses in the door so I have to assume that if I wanted power windows it would be similar, but I don't really care about that. Just the a/c and stereo and I can live with the rest, lol.
