How do I get the battery out of a 1996 Chevy Monte Carlo LE?

Asked by FelipeDeb Aug 27, 2012 at 11:36 PM about the 1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Z34 FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My neighbor's in a wheelchair, and this is his car, so having a dead car is a nightmare for him. A few weeks ago he tried to turn the engine over and it just clicked. Tonight we were able with great muscles (I am a woman!) to remove the metal bar etc. and expose the battery) to jump the battery. After about five minutes, the engine tried to capture but then it started to click. My problem is I can't get the battery out. Do you think it is the battery? Help!

There is a black rubber hold down bolted to the battery tray. Its near the bottom of the battery closest to the passenger side of the car.
