hey Jackie it's Paul and Canada I need to know if you have a 5.3 liter v8 which is a 305 cubic inch motor, your engine from completely dry with a new oil filter and plug back in by a 4 liter jug, and safely you can dump the whole thing into the motor which will fill the oil filter which is dry and leave the more about 1 liter shy of being full. once you have empty the full job into the motor leave it for 5 minutes left the oil filter down through the motor started let it run for 30 seconds shut it off leave it for about 30 seconds and then pull the dipstick clean it off reinsert it and pull it out and check it carefully, and you should be just under the full mark on the dipstick you should have to maybe dribble in about another half a litre of oil no more than that. CheCk one more time but I guarantee you will be good to go! please be advised this is only for a 305 v8 a 350 might take another half of liter more. cheers from Canada its damn cold up here lol:-):-):-)

The small V8 engine in my 2000 Silverado takes 6 quarts. Same model as yours. If it's a quart low after running it, it takes 6 quarts. That's how I found out!

Omg, a 5.3 is NOT a 305... it takes 6 quarts or 5.5 liters for you up there in Canada.

oops you know what you're probably right but I think the displacement on my motor is a 305 cubic inch, I know its a 5.3 liter Vortec v8, which does make sense with my explanation of putting 5 liters in, from dry and then running it to fill the oil filter and then topping it off my mistake sorry bro!

5.3L= 324ci. Just 3 cubic inches of displacement off from being the well know 327ci

I believe John is right it is 324 ci just shy of the 327 which therefore would make it actually like a 307 not the 305 version

The Gen III 5.3L Vortec has a 323ci displacement & is sometimes documented or stated as having 324ci because you round up from 323.6ci, since this is its actual displacement to the 1st decimal

The Chevy 305 was marketed as a 5.0... and the Ford 302 also was a 5.0. some liberty's taken..
