My 99 Chevy Silverado 1500 won't come out of park and into gear.

Asked by Helmsy4577 Aug 10, 2015 at 11:54 AM about the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Extended Cab LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I try and put the truck in to reverse or
anything the shifter if very hard to pull on
and when I move it down to put the truck
into gear something pushes up on the floor
board right by drivers side feet. I don't know
if this is a problem with my transmission or
with my brakes.

Your cable to your transmission could be bad. It should be located under your carpet on your driver side.

It shouldn't be too hard. Just take your side trim off on the door and under the dash and then pull your carpet back. The cable should be right there then remove it from the column and the transmission. Here's a link for the part to give you an idea. http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/1999/chevrolet/k1500/transmission/automatic_transmission_selector_cable.html

As an old mechanic, based on what he said, check your motor mounts as well.
