When the ignition locked up on a Chevy Silverado 1500 year 2000 do you have to replace the steering column or is there another way to do it
1 Answer
It depends on why it locked up. Normally there is a disk that may need replacement. Some have been made of metal, others plastic, and both can wear out. The entire steering column should not need replacing. It may even be the key lock mechanism. go on line and look at the steering column and you should fine a round disk that has a lot of notches in it. that may be what is bad or just a loose nut or screw.
