Changing from 16 inch to 17 inch tires requires different wheels. 16 inch tires can only be mounted on 16 inch wheels. 17 inch tires require a 17 inch wheel. Do some shopping around.
Bob, Does that mean you can put 17" wheels on a 2000 chev Silverado that comes with 16"?

"Bob, Does that mean you can put 17" wheels on a 2000 chev Silverado that comes with 16"? " My guess would be yes, depending on the tire size. My 2002 Yukon XL Denali has 285/70r17s on it, (original stock tire size) but the spare is a 285/75r16, which the owners manual says is the same circumference as the 17s.
I don't see any reason why you couldn't put 17 inch wheels and tires on a 2000 Silverado the wheel size is not the problem it's the tire size that matters as far as circumference and whether it will fit in the wheel well without rubbing for a lift kitbecause the bigger the wheel the smaller the tire I see guys with 20 in wheels on denali's and yukons and pickups
I have a 98 Silverado and just put 17in on cause 16s are getting impossible to find. Found a set of 4 with rims for a 100. Off a 07. Saved me 600 vs buying new
I was trying to find info on tires that would work on 1500s chevy. Just kind of a everyday diver no big hauling being done. well it has 15inch rims with( four knifed to side wall flats) 235/75/15 tire.

Something else I have discovered if you are swapping rims around between different vehicles - not all chevy alloy rims are created equal. I have a 96 and a 99 (obs) suburban 1500 (front disc-rear drum brakes, 16" rims), a 99 (nbs) silverado 1500 (4 wheel disc brakes, 16" rims). The rims off the drum brake equipped trucks do not fit over the rear axle disc brake calipers on the 4 wheel disc truck. Fit fine on the front discs but hit the calipers on the back.

You can replace 16 inch wheels with 17 inch wheels, but you need the 17 inch wheel lug nuts too!! The lug nuts have a different seal size than the 16 wheel lug nuts!! Tires can become loose if lug nuts aren't for the 17 inch wheels!!
