Truck won't start

10

Asked by Nate1177 Jan 16, 2016 at 07:54 PM about the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The truck was cutting out real bad so we
replaced the ignition coil and it fixed the
problem. We drove it down the road about
2 miles and it just died. We couldn't get it
to start back up. It would turn over but it
seems like it isn't getting enough fire. Fuel
pump is working and it has all new plugs
and wires

This sound electrical. Should check for spark. Chances are it would be the ignition control module. Auto Zone can test it before purchasing a new one. Another one would be the crankshaft sensor. Again this can be tested.

I need to know if it is a 4.3L or a 4.8L engine. But you take the coil wire off from the distributor cap, and place it near something metal for ground creating a small gap from the metal terminal of the wire. Have someone turn it over and watch for the spark if any, to see what it looks like. If it is yellow it is weak. Let me know what you find, there are other things to check if there is a spark, which would be the cap and rotor.

Oh ya, do not hang onto the wire with your hands, if there is spark you would light up like a Christmas tree...

Rowefast...i have a ? For u u seem to know what ur talking about with cars or trucks and i have a ? About my truck? Get back to me if u get this and could help alittle

The way I check spark is to use a spark plug wire and spark plug. Ground the plug to the engine and turn the engine over and look for a spark.

That is a lot easier using a spark plug, thanks for the input.
