Car stalls after starting new battery

Asked by Justin Jan 20, 2016 at 01:30 AM about the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Extended Cab LB RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi, My 02 Chevy Silverado stalled on me and wouldn't start again. I got towed
home and bought a new battery since the car stopped starting all together
and battery was completely dead. Now the car starts no problem and runs for
a couple of seconds before stalling. The old battery was going on 8 years old
(diehard)...

Start by spraying some starting fluid down the throttle body to see if it fires up. Then check the fuel pressure, it should be 56 to 63 lbs.

https://youtu.be/dTk-4DVpoEI This is after 2nd time starting it. Didn't use starter fuel at all yet.

The new battery is at already at 12.44 not sure if that's the starter I'm hearing because that battery is low or the starter is also going out.

So what exactly are we talking about? The truck engine not turning over due to a low battery or the engine not starting?

Thanks for your help, Did you check out the video? is 12.44 enough juice for the starter?

Maybe that's not the starter I hear, because I can hear it after turning the car off. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTk-4DVpoEI&feature=youtu.be

Ok I heard two different noises. Is this what you are talking about? Because what is going on in that video is lack of fuel pressure. The one noise is a starter drive starting to go, and the other noise almost sounds like a relay or something. I can't put my finger on it. Also 12.5 to 12.7 volts is charged on a good battery. 12.44 V the battery is getting low on charge.

ok so after doing some research I think I have an issue with the security crap built into the truck. Videos below, will update if it fixes it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSApoE5tUtQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_njAVpk47_c

Ok, watched the videos. This is my take on your problem. Changing the battery and the BCM loosing memory I can see this. You would have to do this step first. Your security light on? Next, the truck died for a reason, so was it a dead battery because of the alternator? Old battery of 8 years, yes it needed to be replaced. Do you remember the voltage on the gage before it died? If this does not start but will turn over after resetting the pass lock, then you still have to check for spark, and fuel pressure.
