Intermitten Transmission Problems

Asked by Zafaron Aug 28, 2015 at 10:31 AM about the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought a used Silverado a while back and it's been having some odd intermittent shifting problems with the transmission.  The problem has to be electrical, but I'm not entirely sure where it would be located.  About half the time when I start the truck, the transmission will stay in one gear the whole time. (Some kind of safe mode I assume)  The other half of the time, the truck shifts perfectly fine.  I am partly convinced that it has to be something in the ignition system somewhere, since starting and shutting off the truck seems to be the only thing that changes it from working correctly to not working correctly.

I replaced those first thing, since they were easy to get to. There was a torque converter sensor fault and a knock sensor fault as well as a shift solenoid fault. The solenoids tested within range but I replaced them anyway since I already had the old ones out, no change.
