2003 chevy silverado trans in limp mode

Asked by Corey Lynn Jul 04, 2016 at 11:19 PM about the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 chevy Silverado 5.3 4l60e 4wd. the trans is in limp mode. its stuck in 2nd but i can shift down to 1st. also no speedo. and the odometer is going crazy , it goes through the languages on its own.

about 3 months ago i was driving home from work and i was going up a hill (at about 60-70 mph, not real sure, speedo didn't work then either) and out of nowhere the truck kicks out of gear. eventually i slowed down enough to catch 2nd gear and got it home slowly, i assumed the transmission went out completely, as it had been slipping quite a bit. well i parked it and was waiting for the time to put a new transmission in and eventually about 2 weeks ago id had enough of the waiting and sent to the transmission shop. they rebuilt and when i got it back it was doing great until i got a mile from my house.  then it kicked out of gear and back to square one. i realized that second that i had spent $1100 for nothing. anybody know whats going on?

I'm sure you have some trouble codes. Let's see them

That's an important one there. It is either the manual valve switch or there is a mechanical fault in the trans. Since its been rebuilt then you most likely need that switch replaced as most rebuilds probably won't change it
