What would cause my 2004 to die when I stop?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It has 195,895 miles on the engine.  I stop and it dies.  It does not do it all the time, just
once in a while.  You can not even tell that it has died.  There is no sputtering.  It will
start right back up.  I have checked to see if there are any codes and there are none.
Would appreciate any feedback.

No Check Engine Light and no fault codes... did you have it scanned with an OBDII scanner? Let's go with that, you did, no fault codes. Could be IAC, Idle Air Control, with near 200k have you kept up with spark plugs, (Modern Spark Plugs last a very very long time but not forever. 100k easy) When you tell us "You can not even tell that it has died: tells us that it runs quietly and smoothly to begin with. this is good. Probably not serious. OK...what engine? 5.3L?

OK, without feedback, I can only guess -- I am not a GM product expert. Idles too low...? That needs to be addressed if it is the case because with a very low idle, oil pressure is not up where it needs to be. I don't even know what "normal" idle rpm should be, but at least 1000 rpm. Probably a bit faster. Next (guess) Ignition timing, from a faulty 02 sensor, AF (Air/Fuel)Trim sensor, if it has California emissions package then even more sensors enter the scenario. If you are getting at least 20mpg, then your engine is running as it should and the stalling, when you stop at -- say a red light -- then I for one am stumped. What we need is GM person to chime in here.

Engine is 5.3L. Does not miss at all. Thanks very much for input.
