New front Differential Actuator and still not engaging the front wheels?
Even though the light on the dash says it is 4 high or 4 lo, the front end is
engaging. I just spin the back tires on snow. I read that I should replace the
front axle actuator, so I did that and still nothing. I pulled the actuator out and
turned 4x4 on and off and it moved in and out. Put it back on the truck and
nothing. What other places should I be looking at to help engage the front
end? I have jacked up the front end while in 4x4 and the tires spin freely?
Jack up the front end and put it in 4xr. Check to see if the front shaft spins freely or not. If it spins free then the transfer case is your problem.
Just jacked up the front end in 4x4 and the driveshaft doesn't turn. The wheels spin freely like the front differential is not engaged. Like I said, I replaced the front axle actuator, pulled it off again and it goes in and out, put it back on and still no locking of the diff? Kind of stumped, might take it to a mechanic.
The collar that locks it might be damaged inside the front diff. Not an easy fix if so

I took it to the mechanic amd he had to replace everything in the front differential. Found t9ns of metal shavings when I pulled the filler plug. Cost about $1000 and had to wait 2 weeks to get parts from GM. Sucks, I am guessing the guy I bought from either ran it dry or left it in auto amd drove around on pacement for months.
I think i have the same issue. Damn $1000.

Way cheaper and easier to get a used differential and put it in yourself I got on in my area for my 04 z71 for 80 bucks with a warranty from pull a part hardest part of putting it In is getting the skid plate off lol bout hour and done
I'm having the same issues with my 05 Tahoe. I replaced everything simple... the t case motor, the front axle actuator, the in dash switch, and the t case module and still no 4wd. Put my truck on a lift and in 4wd identified the front driveline was spinning so the problem is in the front differential. Thanks for everyone's input. Looks like I'll be looking for a used one to swap out. Damn.
so a few months ago, i put a new actuator on, the actuator i took off does not have a hole like the new one i put on, does that hole matter? or do i have to buy one without it? when i bought the part i didnt know if mine had the hole or not untill i took it off in the picture, is the old part, & on the new part the hole is in the middle,
