the intake is a 2 pices consisting of a lower intake and a plastic upper intake. On top of the upper intake is a (throttle body) that just consists of a throttle blade that opens with the gas pedal. has an intake plenum that goes from that throttle body to a box near the firewall. On a vortec motor you cannot see the actual injector without removing the upper intake. A carburated motor will have a carb on top a one piece intake and a top mounted air filter. An old TBI motor will look similar. Also a true wortec motor will have the intake to head bolts sticking straight up, older non-vortecs will have those bolts sitting at a 45 degree angle.
